Being a student is stressful.  Among the many worries of being a teenager or young adult, there is considerable pressure to decide what career to follow.  This is a confusing time, with a bewildering number of opportunities.

Negotiating the pathway is hard.  Where to start?  What kind of job will really suit you?

This is where a vocational assessment may help you to get to know yourself better and assess alternative options.

Having a vocational assessment means you are much more likely to embark on a path that works for you.  Even if you have a clear idea about what you want to do, knowing that you have other options increases your self-confidence.

This assessment is based on the four pillars of abilities, interests, personality and values.  Using questionnaires and an in-depth interview, the psychologist will explore your preferences one-on-one and help you to translate these into a workable action plan, e.g. university, TAFE, private courses, job seeking strategies.

The Process

  • An initial four-hour session, which includes a comprehensive face-to-face interview and completion of appropriate valid and reliable self-report inventories and ability tests
  • A follow-up session several days later where the results and implications of the assessment are discussed with the student and often, the parents
  • The student receives a written report of the findings

Benefits

This process will help you clarify and expand your options.  You will recognise your strengths and be able to make more informed choices and decisions rather than losing time, money and self-esteem on false starts.
